About the Founder
Prof. Dr. AKM FazlulHaque, the pioneer colorectal surgeon in Bangladesh and the sub-continent, is the founder of Dr. FazlulHaque Colorectal Hospital Limited, Bangladesh and Subcontinent’s first international standard colorectal hospital, which is named after him. This is the first of its kind of specialized hospital in Bangladesh and 2nd in the world.
He obtained MBBS degree from Dhaka Medical College and Fellowship (FCPS, Surgery) from Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons.
He was also the founder Chairman and Professor of the Department of Colorectal Surgery at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka. He introduced MS degree course in Colorectal Surgery first time in Bangladesh in 2006 in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University which is also first time in the sub-continent. Dr. FazlulHaque won International Award from American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) for his leading contribution in colorectal surgery in Bangladesh. This was a world wide competition. He was third in Asia & 7th surgeon in the world to receive this award.
He has practiced strictly limited colorectal surgery since 1995. In the last 30 years, he has consulted about 450,000 (Four Lac and Fifty Thousand) new patients and operated on 95,000 (Ninety-Five Thousand) patients in private and government hospitals for piles, fistula, and anal fissure. He has performed the highest number of operations in the whole world.
He successfully pioneered various modern surgeries of the colon and rectum, such as Double Stapling of Rectal Cancer, Longo Operation for Hemorrhoids/Piles, Complex Fistula Operation with the Seton Technique, and successful operation of Fistula after repeated failed previous operations home & abroad.
Prof. Haque popularized the idea of treating 70-80% of piles patients with surgical procedures like Rubber Ring Ligation. He was the first in the history of Bangladesh to conduct International Training Courses for Senior Foreign Experts in May 2008. Surgeons from Sri Lanka, Nepal, India and Maldives participated in the international training program, titled ‘Master Program in ‘MIPH’’.
Besides, he has taken the initiative to observe ‘World Piles and Colorectal Cancer Day’ on 20th November nationally and internationally with the aim of increasing public awareness.
As a proud father, Dr. Haque has instilled his passion for medicine in his family. His two sons and daughters-in-law are also specialist surgeons, continuing the legacy of excellence in healthcare. Together, they serve in the same hospital, exemplifying a true “doctor family” dedicated to the service of humanity.
Prof. Dr. Haque is now the Founder Chairman & his loving wife Prof. ShahinMahbubaHaque is the Managing Director of the Hospital.
